Hoe and where do you live?
Lisa Hauser: For the time being, I still live with my parents at home, in my home town in Reith near Kitzbühel. I really enjoy that because my mom of course still likes to spoil me when I come home from long training sessions.
We have learnt that you will soon implement your private dream of living by building your own home. What is important to you during the planning phase, and what do you pay special attention to?
LH: The feel-good factor is very important to me. When you travel as much as I do, you sleep in many different and countless hotels. Therefore it is essential to have a place where you feel at home. And from the sports point of view, it was important to me to be able to fully darken even during the day. On training days at home, the day is divided into two parts. My training takes place in the mornings and afternoons, and at lunchtime, I make a nap to regenerate. With the darkening of the external Venetian blinds, the room also becomes quieter, and this is a great advantage for the mid-day rest.
Are you sensitive to light when sleeping at night as well?
LH: Fortunately, I do not have big problems with full moon, but I try to reduce light disturbance factors. TVs and telephones are unplugged in the hotel and - if available - shutters or blinds are closed.
Sun protection is also heat protection. How do you cope with heat?
LH: I guess I did not become a biathlete by accident. I think I'm a winter person - I admit that I'm actually always glad when the summer is over. Heat is a sensitive issue for me and I don't handle it all that well. I pay attention to a pleasant, cool living climate in the summer without using air conditioning, because even a slight chill sets you back a week or two in training.
You are world champion - when are products world class from your point of view?
LH: Concerning the material, our equipment is polished to the icing on the cake, there is already very much tinkering. The rifle or the shoes are very individual and personalised for the athlete. In addition, there is the requirement that the material must be easy to use and practical. This is just as true for me in sports as it is for investments in construction and housing.
When building a new home, there are many products to choose and a lot of decisions to make within a short time. Did you make sure to choose premium manufacturers and did you rely on well-known brands?
LH: We paid attention to the good reputation of most outfitters and worked in principle with domestic companies. Many friends have already built their house, and from there you get a lot of first-hand information. That's how I came up with the shading from HELLA. In the circle of friends it was really the case that all who had installed the products raved about them and use them in everyday life. The fact that HELLA has also been supporting the Austrian biathlon team as a sponsor makes the story even rounder for me, of course.
Today, you came to us directly from your training in Obertilliach. Now you have seen HELLA's plant from the inside for the first time. What was the perception when we went through?
LH: When you walk through the halls, you realise how huge this is, and it's really exciting to see the individual work steps. It's also cool to be able to take a look behind the scenes. After all, you carry the brand's name on the training and competition clothing out into the whole world.
Thank you for the interesting conversation.
