The topics of sustainability and energy efficiency play - more than ever - an essential role in customers' purchasing decisions. This is also reflected in the sales figures of the HELLA Group. "The right sun protection can save significant energy and therefore costs in both summer and winter. That is why our products for external sun protection such as venetian blinds, external venetian blinds and roller shutters have experienced enormous growth," explains Andreas Kraler, Managing Partner of the HELLA Group. In the patio and garden segment, the up- and under-glass awnings were again absolute bestsellers. This clearly shows that the desire to extend living space is a continuing trend that was not limited to the Corona period.
The company's own development in the area of controls - ONYX - also recorded enormous growth in 2022. It ensures that the sun protection closes or opens automatically and at the best time. In this way, the energy input that is also generated in buildings by the power of the sun is used in the best possible way or averted.
The company produces more energy than it consumes at its headquarters thanks to its own hydroelectric power plant and its participation in a biomass heating plant. In order to be energy self-sufficient there in the future, photovoltaic systems will be installed on the roof of the production plant in 2023. Sustainable building solutions will subsequently be extended to the production sites in Germany. The use of photovoltaics is also an important topic for the future in product development. Work is underway on sun protection systems with integrated photovoltaic elements that convert sunlight into energy before it enters the building and overheats it.
Based on the very successful year, Kraler is optimistic about the future: "We are very well positioned in all areas of the company, have great teams working for our clients and are innovative pioneers across the industry. Times are challenging socio-politically and economically, but I see many opportunities for HELLA." The importance of systemic solar shading continues to grow due to the increasing demand for energy efficient properties. With the trend towards refurbishment, multi-storey housing and prefabricated timber and concrete construction, there are enormous opportunities for the sun protection provider. This is because the company has tailor-made solutions for every building project.
