The work is based on the famous Spanish expedition led by the Portuguese Ferdinand Magellan to the Spice Islands, during which the earth was circumnavigated for the first time without planning. The centre of the exhibition are eleven life-size wooden sculptures. No less impressive are the series of pictures, painted with ash and charcoal on aluminium.
The work was first exhibited in 2022 at the Tyrol Castle, Merano, and subsequently at the Haus der Regionen in the EU region of Brussels. After a few more stops in 2024, the exhibition is now coming for the first time to the artist's home, the Anraser Pfleghaus. The works will be exhibited there from 29th June to 1st September. Use of wood and metal as well as skilled craftsmanship are of crucial importance for the HELLA Group. These core competences, combined with innovative ability, characterise the company's products. For Andreas Kraler, Managing Director of the HELLA Group, supporting the exhibition is therefore a natural choice: “Lois Fasching makes the historically significant moment of the first circumnavigation of the world tangible with his sculptures. In this, he combines craftsmanship with creativity and an innovative spirit. We at HELLA also focus on craftsmanship. Coupled with innovative ability, this is reflected in many details of our products.”
