Architecture is in a state of flux. Between urbanisation, climate change and the desire for sustainable living, the challenge of developing solutions, which meet the needs of people and the requirements of society at the same time is growing.
At the fourth edition of the HELLA Architecture Club, Vera Hartmann, Architect, Partner and Managing Director of the famous Berlin-based architectural firm sauerbruch hutton, presented innovative solutions. Using the example of realised and planned projects, she showed how sustainable concepts can be successfully implemented – for example, the revitalisation of a vacant office building from the late 1960s. Here, a great deal of sensitivity was used to adapt the existing building to modern standards and transform it into high-quality living space.
Another impressive project showed the development of a socially heterogeneous, generationally-appropriate residential area, which is based on sustainable and community-building principles. It became clear that: The architecture of the future requires not only creativity, but also a deep understanding of social and ecological contexts. “Life is colourful and diverse and so is architecture,” explained Hartmann.
Architecture is constantly faced with challenges – and not least financial ones. “One cannot always draw on the full potential,” says Hartmann. “Therefore, integrative also means that one plans for all budgets and uses the space efficiently!”
Andreas Kraler, was enthusiastic about the projects presented and was delighted with the keen interest shown by the public: “At the fourth HELLA Architecture Club, we have seen yet again how valuable the exchange of innovative ideas about building and living is! Sustainability and efficiency are also key topics at HELLA – especially the potential for energy-efficient living through external sun protection and cost savings in cooling and heating.”
The exclusive setting of Loft Z13 provided the perfect backdrop for the event. This private flat, which can now be rented as an event location, is the only property of Italian star architect Vincenzo de Cotiis in Austria. The interior design is kept in an industrial-urban style and impresses with its unique flair. The work done by Vincenzo de Cotiis inspires not only the participants of the HELLA Architecture Club in Vienna, but also discerning international clients such as George Clooney, Steven Spielberg and the Obamas, for whom he has designed properties.
